Teaching philosophy
I am a visual artist and certified art instructor with over fifteen years of experience teaching fine arts in studio, community, and public-school settings throughout New Jersey. My background includes drawing, painting, figure drawing, color theory, and mixed media.
My practice and teaching philosophy are grounded in strong technical foundations, careful observation, and hands-on studio work. I emphasize mastery of fundamentals while encouraging exploration and the development of a personal artistic voice. I work with artists at varying levels, from beginners to advanced, college-bound students, with a focus on building confidence, skill, and clarity in their work.
My teaching is centered on close, attentive studio work and small learning environments where artists receive individualized guidance and thoughtful critique. I place strong emphasis on technical clarity, sustained practice, and meaningful growth, supporting artists as they develop confidence and a clear visual language.
Alongside group instruction, I work one-on-one with artists through mentoring and private studio lessons, often focusing on portfolio development, technical refinement, and long-term artistic direction. This approach allows for deeper engagement with each artist’s goals and process.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts from Montclair State University and have received extensive classical training in drawing and painting through institutions in both the United States and Saint Petersburg, Russia. Teaching remains central to my practice, reinforcing a commitment to discipline, continuous learning, and thoughtful creative growth.
